positive signs of economic development.
Millbrook
PROJECT: Highway 102 Overpass
COMPLETION DATE: July 2001
OPENING DATE: July 2001 (Limited)
A $7.4 million overpass linking both sides of the Millbrook
First Nation reserve is expected to be opened in the next couple
of weeks. Traffic will be restricted to the eastern side of the
reserve until infrastructure projects, at the Truro Power Centre
on the west of Highway 102 are complete at the beginning of August.

PROJECT: Truro Power Centre Development
LOCATION: Millbrook Reserve, along Highway 102
COMPLETION DATE: Ongoing
Contruction continues at the Truro Power Centre as the site is
prepared for future retail developments. Six projects are currently
being negotiated but none of the participants have yet signed deals.
Millbrook officials are withholding details of the developments
except to say they include retail, hospitality, office space,
distribution services, light industrial uses and tourism. An
announcement is expected August 1 when the site is scheduled to be
ready for construction.
Construction on the site has resulted in more than $2.5 million
in wages paid to 147 full-time employees over the course of the
past 3 years. The economic spinoff for the surrounding area and the
province is estimated at $4.8 million.

PROJECT: Millbrook Band Administrative Building
LOCATION: Millbrook Reserve
COMPLETION DATE: Spring 2001
Construction will begin this month on a $2.5 million administration
building across from the current Millbrook band office. The 18,000
square-foot building will have an octagonal entry-way and a longer
building extending in the behind. The three storey building will be the
home of the new council chambers.
