New centre a sign of things to come for Millbrook
By Ryan Craswell
MILLBROOK -- The Truro Power Centre was officially opened yesterday,
signalling a new era in economic development on the first nation reserve
in Millbrook.
Premier John Hamm and Northern Affairs Minister Robert Nault helped
Chief Lawrence Paul cut the ribbon to open the centre, ending over two
years in planning and preparation.
The Power Centre, located at exit 13A off Highway 102, currently houses
a Needs/Green Gables convenience store, Ultramar Gas Centre and a Tim
Hortons outlet, with Sobeys preparing to construct a new state-of-the-art
store on 50 acres of land it has leased for the next 40 years.
"We are finally achieving something that for a long time we only talked
about," said Paul. "Now it has become a reality and it is a very wonderful
feeling."
