It took almost two years to negotiate, but Millbrook Chief
Lawrence Paul says a 40-year development deal with Sobeys is
the key to future prosperity for his people.
"Joint projects between First Nations and the private sector
are still very rare, but they are the way of the future if we
are going to provide for our grandchildren and our grandchildren's
grandchildren," Chief Paul said at a special ceremony Wednesday
in Millbrook, where the deal was officially signed.
Under the agreement, the Atlantic franchise division of Sobeys
has leased 1.3 hectares of band property for construction of a
Green Gables store, an Ultramar service station, and A&W restaurant
and the largest Tim Hortons in Atlantic Canada.
